Sequence from the presentation of ISUD Cluj, by Marcel Ionescu-Heroiu<\/p><\/div>\n

The desegregation and social inclusion projects carried out by the Cluj Metropolitan Area in Pata-R\u00e2t were mentioned as an example of good practice at national level by representatives of the World Bank (WB) in Romania. Thus, Marcel Ionescu-Heroiu, a specialist in urban development of the WB said, on Monday, November 15th, that such approaches are recommended by the World Bank for the rest of the cities in the country. The statements were made on the occasion of the public debate on the Integrated Urban Development Strategy of Cluj. Below is the WB expert\u2019s quote on this topic:<\/p>\n

In parallel with the elaboration of ISUD, the housing strategy of Cluj was also developed, the first such strategy by a city in Romania. A very important component is about social housing, an area that we know hurts in Cluj. It is an area where civil society has been very involved, vocal and active, and where we hope that things will move forward. The program that has already been implemented through the Metropolitan Area, with Norwegian funds, of acquiring social housing in heterogeneous communities, is an example of good practice that we are somewhat trying to give in the rest of the country. That kind of approach, it\u2019s, we think, the right kind of approach. So, somehow, integrating a family from a marginalised community into a heterogeneous community, as opposed to building separate housing only for marginalised communities. CMA carried out between 2014-2017, the Pata-Cluj project<\/a>through which 35 families were moved from marginalised communities from Pata-R\u00e2t, into social housing in integrated areas of the city and metropolitan area. The 35 families are 143 people, of which 75 adults and 68 children. They continue to benefit from psycho-social assistance, conceived as support to facilitate the transition from Pata R\u00e2t to the majority community.<\/p>\n

The current project,<\/a>abbreviated to Pata 2.0, aims to continue the process of desegregation in the disadvantaged community from Pata-R\u00e2t, through a complex, multisectoral intervention, and to ensure a minimum of 30 decent social housing.<\/p>\n
